“Lybia becomes a tech battleground”

Lybia, currently a worn-torn country, is facing the added burden of increased cyberattacks and a target to hacking. In last August 2019, the Government of National Accord (GNA)’s official twitter account was hacked. Another significant cyber attack was conducted by a hacker that targeted LAAF. The hacker seized and published private information on government officials and government documents. Spreading propaganda, causing further political turmoil was the direct aim of such attacks.

The increased presence of (cheap) cyber technology in Lybia poses a threat to regional security, as Lybian digital networks are continuously targeted from hackers, criminals, terrorists, as well as state-sponsored hackers. This unfortunately, may lead to the prolongation and aggravation of the Lybian crisis.
